Our Caterers Highlight: Seed Sprout Spoon
At Tower Grove Park, we keep it local! Recently, we expanded our list of preferred caterers in the Piper Palm House. We now partner with local caterers to provide unique and affordable options. Whether it’s BBQ for your corporate party or an elegant plate for your wedding reception, there’s an option to make your event special.
Plus, reserving our historic venues means supporting the Park and preserving the history that makes St. Louis great. Rental fees for pavilions, venues, fields, and picnic sites all contribute to the revenue used to restore, maintain and advance the Park. It’s a win-win!

Seed Sprout Spoon
We’ve had the pleasure of partnering with Seed Sprout Spoon for catering the Piper Palm House private events as well as catering our own fundraiser, Pavilion Party, in 2019. There’s something whimsical about the imaginative displays, rich with live botanicals and bright with color. That is in addition to the organic, locally sourced product—"Our farmers and artisan producers employ the highest standards of food production: local sourcing of product and labor; organic and biodynamic farming; free-range livestock free of added hormones and unnecessary antibiotics.” We highly recommend Seed Sprout Spoon as your farm-to-table caterer, and you can rest easy knowing you are supporting both your community and planet.
Tell us about yourself/company story!
“Seed Sprout Spoon was born of the legacy of Local Harvest Cafe and Catering, which itself was the brainchild of the founders of Local Harvest Grocery and Tower Grove Farmers’ Market. These institutions were among the first in St. Louis to promote, purchase, and sell local foods. Many successful local food businesses in the region got their start selling at TGFM and Local Harvest. In 2016, chef Brendan Kirby and event director Erin Wiles had the incredible opportunity to purchase the cafe and catering branch of Local Harvest. While Brendan was new to the organization, lately having helmed the kitchen at Civil Life Brewery, Erin had worked for Local Harvest since 2011. Brendan and Erin met working at Mangia Italiano in 2006 and remained friends until Erin convinced him to help purchase and rebrand the catering company. Building upon the connections LHC forged with farmers and clients, Seed Sprout Spoon brought on new staff, revamped social accounts and media, refined the signature food styling, and expanded the menus. Within a few short years, SSS has become a prominent farm-to-table caterer in the area, appearing in St. Louis Business Journal’s list of Top 25 Largest Catering Companies.”
Why select you as a caterer?
“We are an owner-operated boutique catering and events company dedicated to the high-quality products of local food producers. This simple tenet is a hardy root which has many and diverse branches: it means our food is fresher, seasonal, and best-tasting; it means we have a dedicated staff whom we pay a living wage; it means support for other small local businesses; it means dollars you spend with us stay in our local economy. Our farmers and artisan producers employ the highest standards of food production: local sourcing of product and labor; organic and biodynamic farming; free-range livestock free of added hormones and unnecessary antibiotics. Our food is not only delicious but presented beautifully--carefully arranged by our staff and served with gratitude. Our event displays marry upcycled vintage china, wooden crates, and silver-plated trays with live botanical arrangements to create a stunning platform for our fine ingredients and recipes. We limit the extreme waste of event catering by composting and recycling at home and off-site, often leaving events with less than one bag of landfill waste. We seek to serve well: both our customers and their guests, our community and our planet.”
What type of catering services/experiences do you offer?
“Pretty much anything! We offer simple drop off catering, and also plan and execute fully designed events. Cocktail/stations weddings have become our specialty, but we also catering banquet-style meals such as buffets, plated, and family-style meals. We are fully licensed for bar services and feature many local breweries and distilleries on our menu. We offer vintage event rentals, reception coordination, and design services for our event clients.”
What type of cuisine do you offer?
“All kinds, as long as it can be largely sourced in Missouri! Our menus range from familiar comfort food to exotic cuisine made with local ingredients.”
What’s the most popular menu item?
“Our small plates station menu: each station is based upon a St. Louis neighborhood well-known for a certain type of cuisine, be it pasta from the Hill or gumbo in Soulard. We love the idea that we can localize international flavors by basing these items in a local geography and then crafting the menu with local, seasonal ingredients.”
What makes your catering company unique?
“Our people! We have the best staff in the city. They truly care and will go out of their way to make guests well fed and happy.”
Share your favorite wedding/event story!
“I have lots of favorites, but the time that Nelly played the afterparty at an upscale wedding downtown while we passed White Castle sliders on silver trays--that one probably takes the cake! It was soooooo #stlouis.”
