Tower Grove Park plants about 100 new trees every year. Creating a mulch ring around a newly planted tree – less than 10 years old – is one of the most effective practices that can be done to give the tree the best opportunity to thrive. Mulch rings placed 3 to 6 feet around a tree can almost double the growth rate of the tree.
Walking through your neighborhood, you will see a wide variety of mulching techniques. Many of which are good examples of what not to do. So how do you recognize the proper method to mulch a tree?
Volunteer with the Forestry Team in Tower Grove Park to learn appropriate mulching technique. Most equipment will be provided. You will want a water bottle, facial covering, gloves, clothes you do not mind getting dirty – long pants are recommended – and sturdy footwear like boots. We will have everything else on site for your use!
