Exploring the Arboretum
Take a tree walk with Ted Spaid, and learn more about the history of Tower Grove Park’s gardenesque history as it relates to the past, present, and future of tree plantings. Henry Shaw’s desire to display the horticultural characteristics of trees can still be observed today however due to decline and climate change many plantings continue to struggle. This prompted the need for a Tree Restoration Master Plan that was adopted in the Spring of 2022. Learn about the importance of seasonality, biodiversity, texture, and tree form. See how the area around the Turkish Pavilion and along the Main Drive will benefit from revitalization and new tree plantings to secure the parks next 150 years.
