Catalpa Tree Farewell

  • Tower Grove Park: Catalpa Tree Southeast Drive at Center Cross/Tower Grove Ave St. Louis, MO, 63110 (map)

As Tower Grove Park and our community says farewell to our beloved Catalpa tree, we invite the community to participate in a day of festivities.

9:30-11:00am: Storytime & Crafts for Kids

Join us at 9:30am for craft and story time next to the Catalpa tree! Listen to tree-themed books read by a librarian from St. Louis Public Library-Carpenter Branch and make your own wearable mushroom hat. Storytelling kicks off at 10 am, and crafting will be offered both before and after story time. Some blankets will be available for seating but feel free to bring your own.

2:00-4:00pm: Artist Hours

Calling all artists!  Join us in this community gathering for a last chance to draw, paint, sketch or otherwise depict the Catalpa tree before it’s gone.  We will be joined by local artists Michael Anderson, Sophie Binder, Jen Collins, Leslie Faust, Arden Starling, and Doug Weaver, who will make artwork of the tree on-site and may have works for sale. All artists are welcome, no matter the medium, experience level, or age.

4:00-6:00pm: A Toast to a Special Tree

Join us for a special evening to say farewell to this beautiful tree. Bring your own food and seating to enjoy a final picnic at the tree. Take advantage of our whimsical photo props to get a selfie with the tree. Forest ReLeaf will be onsite to collect “Tree Stories” from the community. Every adult over 21 years old will receive a Park Lager from Schlafly, featuring the Catalpa tree (as supplies last). The program kicks off at 5 pm with a few readings and will culminate in a farewell toast.
