Song Of The Flower

Artist Gay Goessling will speak about her artwork entitled ”Song Of The Flower.”

The lecture will include her paintings and inspiration to paint the sacred geometry of flowers. Gay Goessling’s art is educated by her work in Botany, Landscape Architecture, Nature, Geometry and indigenous cultures, and is inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. Gay seeks to illuminate through her artwork how relationships in nature present and repeat while sending out energetic signatures which change the sense of space.

About Speaker

Plants and flowers have always been a part of Gay’s life. Born in Hawaii to a third-generation family, Gay moved to St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 2. Gay has painted flowers off and on throughout her life from a very young age. Because of her love of plants and art, Gay pursued a BA in Botany and Art History from Connecticut College where she studied flower taxonomy and art.

Continuing with her love of plants, she furthered her design education at Harvard University graduate School of Design to study Landscape Architecture. In 2012, Gay’s passions and experiences converged to create the series which she calls “Song Of The Flower”. Her love of painting, art, and art history led her to paint. Her love of landscape architecture and spirituality taught her to see and understand the sacred geometry and relationships within the flowers. Her love of botany and landscape architecture taught her about the relationships of the parts of the flower to the whole, while Leonardo DaVinci’s Vitruvian Man inspired the paintings. Her paintings reflect her love of flowers, botany, art, art history, landscape architecture, nature, and spirituality.

The series “Song Of The Flower” illustrates the sacred geometric signature each flower transmits outwardly to reconnect us with ourselves. With the help of each flower, Gay Goessling, artist, identifies and creates watercolor flower mandalas that transmit these signatures.

In 2019, Gay was awarded an arts commission from the newly constructed St Louis University Hospital on Grand Avenue, St. Louis Missouri. Twenty-six of her 3-foot by 3-foot Giclee prints can be found on the patient floors and outside the ICU. Additionally, her works have been represented in multiple art fairs and collections in the US and Europe.
