Prairie Restoration is in Progress at the Nee Kee Nee - Part II

Prairie Restoration is in Progress at the Nee Kee Nee

This spring, the Nee Kee Nee is undergoing a prairie renovation, during which our Horticulture team has seeded the area with native flora. Below are a few of the plants we have introduced, which we anticipate will flourish this coming spring and summer:

  • Aquilegia canadensis (Columbine): This red, spring-flowering perennial thrives in moist soil and dappled sunlight.

  • Carex spp. (Sedges): Characterized by green leaves and low-growing flowers that bloom throughout the year.

  • Monarda fistulosa (Horsemint/Beebalm): A pink, summer-flowering perennial that prefers dry soil and full sun.

  • Rudbeckia subtomentosa (Sweet Coneflower): A yellow, summer-flowering perennial that thrives in dry soil and full sun.

We look forward to observing the growth and contributions of these native plants to our ecosystem this coming Spring and Summer.
